Measure your connection's bufferbloat and add it to your class
Bufferbloat is the latency that builds up when a connection is busy.
Waveform's test measures it. Bloatcast collects the results so your class
can see how home and campus connections compare over the term.
1 Run the test at
waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat
on the connection you want to measure. Pause downloads and streams first, then let it finish.
2 Copy the result page URL (it contains test-id= and a long id) and note the six numbers on the page: grade, download, upload, unloaded latency, and latency during download and upload.
3 Pick your class here, paste the URL, give the connection a short label such as "Spectrum Home 1GB service" or "OU Internet", type the numbers, and submit.
These numbers are self reported. Bloatcast records what you
type, not what Waveform measured, and the class picture is only as honest as
its submissions. Enter exactly what your result page shows, and submit each
test once.
No sign in, no personal data. Bloatcast stores the six
numbers, your label, the result URL and the time. Each Waveform test id is
accepted once, in one class, and the site owner can remove a bad entry.

Classes use Bloatcast to build a picture of internet quality across their
students' connections. Each student runs Waveform's bufferbloat test on a
connection, labels it, and submits the result to the class.
The class picture is medians and a grade distribution, recomputed from the
submissions each time the page loads. Medians rather than averages, so one
mistyped number cannot move the whole class.
Nothing personal is stored: no names, no accounts, no addresses. Times are
stored in UTC and shown in your local time.
The numbers are typed by hand because Waveform sits behind a bot challenge,
so Bloatcast's server cannot read a result page to verify them. Your browser
may prefill the form if it can reach the page, and either way you confirm
what is submitted.
Results are self reported. Treat the class picture as what
students reported, not as a measurement Bloatcast made.
